A&P Mechanic ACS Decoder — Know Exactly What the FAA Tests

The FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS) define exactly what you must know, how well you must know it, and how it will be evaluated during your A&P oral and practical exam. This decoder breaks it down by subject area.

What Are the ACS?

The Airman Certification Standards (ACS) are the FAA's official documents that define the knowledge, risk management, and skill standards for each airman certificate and rating. For A&P mechanic candidates, the ACS define what your DME (Designated Mechanic Examiner) will evaluate during your oral and practical.

Understanding the ACS before your exam means you know what to study, what level of depth is expected, and what task areas will be evaluated in the practical. The MAS A&P prep course is structured around ACS alignment in all three subject areas: General, Airframe, and Powerplant.

Use the Current FAA ACS Document

The ACS is updated by the FAA periodically. Always download and reference the current FAA Mechanic Airman Certification Standards document directly from the FAA website (faa.gov) when preparing for your exam. The MAS prep course uses current ACS standards as its organizing framework.

MAS Prep Course = ACS Aligned

The MAS A&P prep program structures its curriculum directly around the ACS for all three subject areas. You prep for what the FAA actually tests.
